Sometimes you just gotta resort to old-fashioned means to get things done around here. I'm very happy because I'm having popcorn for the first time in six months. Nevermind that I had to cook it the old-fashioned way with oil in a pan on the stove. You better appreciate the convenience of microwaves! It's interesting how you get used to not having things that are considered an everyday convenience.
Joe and I have discovered the rule of Egypt. They promise you something. They give you half of what they promised. They take away what they gave you, and then when you get back half of that, you are thrilled. For instance, when we moved in, we were told that we had satellite TV and a VCR. Well, the VCR is broken and the PlayStation only plays on our ancient TV in black and white. Okay, we accepted it. Then, our satellite went out all of a sudden. Our landlord had some guys come by tonight and "fix" it. (Basically, they fiddled with the controls for a few hours.) Now, we have less English channels than we did before, but we're totally content and just happy to have something! See, they got us to be happy with only a tiny bit of what was originally promised. Joe and I have decided we are going to start practicing this technique. Only kidding. Hey, at least our landlord fixed it. We're still waiting for the guy to come and fix our heat. He was supposed to come three or four weeks ago on Monday. I'm sure he'll be here soon.
Joe and I are also perfecting our MacGuiver skills. People are much better about fixing things here. In America, when something is broken, you buy a new one. Here, you fix it. For example, when our toilet tank split apart, we siliconed it back together. Our dirty, broken vacuum - we taped it together again. If you need anything fixed, we are going to be pros.
We're enjoying our weekend, sleeping late and hanging out. Only three more days of school before break!
