Whoever Said Pitbulls Are Tough Is Dead Wrong

Just when things start to get dull...

Joe and I were robbed on Wednesday. Our secretary came to get me the last period of the day on Wednesday to tell me that our nanny was waiting at our apartment with the police. She had gone out for a walk with Sophia and when she got back she couldn't open our door. She went to the housing department. They called our landlord and the landlord said to call the police because it's often a sign that your lock has been tampered with. Joe and I rushed home from school to let the police in.

What did we find? Our worst thoughts were that we would be totally cleaned out. We've heard of that happening here, right down to the lightbulbs. It could have been worse. We lost our laptop, our brand new camera and bag, our diaper bag/backpack (which they emptied of its diapers - thanks so much), my new perfume, the necklace that Joe gave me in sixth grade, and my promise ring. Ergh...it's so frustrating. They left the digital picture frame, the DVD player, the PS2, the DVDs, the MP3. They must have been in a hurry. They took money from our nanny's purse, and they must have been looking mainly for money because they pulled all our stuff out of our closets and cupboards. They even opened up Sophia's Cabbage Patch doll to look inside. Sorry, guys, just a battery.

The worst of it is that we were actually worried about Leia. We always joke about how she would just run around and lick a robber. Yep. She was locked in the back bedroom because that's where the nanny keeps her in order to keep her away from the baby. The thieves not only went in there, they let her out. She must have been running around all excited that they were there to play with her. Now, if they had been cats, they would have been dead or hanging from the ceiling when we got there. That dog!!

Thankfully, though, Sophia was not there. Leia is okay. It could have been much worse, and luckily, the school offered us insurance at the beginning of the year which we took. It just sucks feeling so vulnerable. We know that they had to be watching our place and waiting to rob the "rich" foreigners. It could also have been some repair guys who suspiciously came to measure for security bars three times.

It's one of those things that we are just going to try to put behind us. Thank goodness for the blog because each and every one of Sophia's baby pictures was on the computer. I was just thinking the other day that I should back those up. Hopefully, I'll be able to pull her pictures off. So, I guess if my blogs are a little few and far between be patient. The school computers are all we have right now.
