Nannies. We just don't seem to have any luck with them. After spending a week trying to reach our nanny and getting no answer and being told that she was at the dentist all week, we started to worry. We finally got her on the phone and she said she couldn't work for us anymore because she was having problems with her leg and wanted to go to a resort. I guess they do that here, but I'm not so sure it was the reason. So, on Tuesday we realized we were nanny-less. How does one find a nanny in Almaty? Not easily. We asked around our school. We asked our friends' nannies. No leads. We finally called a number listed in a local American newsletter. We interviewed the woman on Thursday night, and we hired her yesterday. She's really professional and has lots of experience, but she isn't as "grandmotherly" as we might like.
Other than that, things have been going pretty well. Our week of doing nothing kind of turned into coming to school and trying to figure out the nanny situation. In the course of the week, our classrooms have been changed and our schedule has been changed. The funny thing is that school hasn't even started yet. Maybe it would have been better to stay away?
We have one more day of summer left with Sophia. We'll have to do something fun together tomorrow. We're still working on that internet connection at home. Apparently, we have it, but I can't get it to work. All in due time. Again, pictures are taking forever to load, so I will try again later!
