Teaching Royalty

Apparently, Joe's teaching the granddaughter of a Polish prince. He is also teaching kids from Korea, South Africa, Russia, America, Denmark, Kazakhstan, Czech Republic, Canada, Indonesia, and Ukraine. That's what happens when you teach in a true international school.

I'm teaching 9-year-olds. Six students out of 11 have come to school so far. Their nationalities? South African, Bulgarian, Kazakh, Russian, Danish/Spanish, and Korean. This school is a true international school. The only down side is that we have extreme variations in the levels of English. The students who are low-level English get pulled out during Reading/Language Arts. You just can't beat my class size. Let's see if the rest of them come.

After the shock of teaching elementary school for the first time, I've decided this might be great. I've already received five pictures. Four portraits of me and one of me swimming with a dophin (after reading a dolphin story to the kids). I also received a hug and a "You're my best teacher ever." Aw, thanks. They're just so darn small.

Joe says it's great because it's like teaching without any discipline whatsoever. Of course, it's only the first couple of days, but these kids are really good. Joe and the other middle school teacher said the students were "soft." Compared to the States? Yeah, I think so. If they remain as good as they are now, it will be a teacher's dream - actually getting to teach without discipline being the major issue.

So, the school year is off to a great start. We'll see what happens throughout the year!

HEY Bearns Trio! sooooo SOOOO happy and relieved to hear that your are FINALLY in a REAL international School -- a QSI one, none the less!

Sophie, you are a doll!

yumi and i are still in So-cal til nov. Pete seems to be enjoying AIS & Jesse's sounded like things are going well for him on the reservation.

Visited T&B last month and just wanted to get some true "betsy hugs" in before heading back and accupying their old place. Have you seen the denver post on them? its got a recent pic. of tom AT HOME in their pish-posh very modern apartment. Hope you were able to chat with her on the phone before you took off.

PS: i REALLY REALLY wish we could all plan a wyoming get together next summer or something. bruce & cindy have got the most healing and rejuvinating place up in the mountains. (oops! am i inviting everyone to their house without permission...) we can maybe plan a campout or something fun and baby friendly.

EAIS is off to yet another frustrating year...sigh. i still keep them in my prayers.

luv and misses,
