The view from our balcony of the park and Hong Kong in the distance. This is a clear day.

This is a hazy, rainy day.

The large bull statue in Si Hai Park. We took a stroll through the park the other day. There were lots of people out and about. There were men fishing, and little groups playing music and singing. Often, there are people dancing under the white tent. Joe wonders how it is that so many people don't have to work.

The view from the backside of our apartment. There's a garden area on the roof of the third floor.

When we got home from the park, there were fire trucks outside our apartment. People were crowded around, gazing up at the top of the building. The firemen had blown up one of those huge, inflatable mats for people to jump onto. My first thoughts were, "Oh, God, I burnt our apartment down!" I went over to try to get a look at what was going on. No smoke, so what could it be? I looked where people were pointing. There was someone on the roof, a person trying to commit suicide, I assume. Joe and I decided that even though it was tempting to hang around, it was something we did not want to see the end of. We went inside and later saw the emergency crew deflating the inflatable emergency pad. We assumed everything ended okay. We wouldn't want to live on the 13th floor and then have something like that happen in our building.
Other than that excitement, we've been out shopping for our apartment. Oh, and we hired our nanny/maid. Her name is Feng. She is maybe in her late 20's and has a four-year-old. I think things will work out fine. She says she'll teach Sophia Mandarin. Pretty soon we'll be eating home-cooked Chinese food. Sophia already is requesting "Chinese food" on a daily basis. I guess she wants more of those whole prawns, though I don't know if I could handle seeing their tentacles hanging out of her mouth again!
